So, the point is 2d animation forever and 3d? can never replace it?

BTW, I think an excellent example of just how blurred I feel Disney/Pixar animation is today would be to look at that new movie Planes. It looks exactly like a Pixar film,? except it’s not, because Pixar is making Disney do it instead. That sort of thing makes me wish the whole Disney/Pixar merger never happened. Disney seems like it’s become a CGI clone of Pixar and all the other computer animation studios of today, making the kind of movies that Pixar would have always made FOR them.

Whether there’s really any difference between Disney and Pixar’s CGI or not, I still think it’s stupid that they’re both doing it. You want to know when I think Disney and Pixar were REALLY distinctive? It was back in the 90’s when Disney still made hand-drawn? films and Pixar was the only CGI side of Disney there was. 2D animation was Disney’s style and image just as CGI was for Pixar. I don’t think that’s something they should just throw away and replace.

I love this style! check out my animation when you? get the chance

I respectfully disagree. CGI can be just as distinctive as? traditional animation. Just compare some recent Sony Pictures Animation movies with things from Blue Sky and Disney, Dreamworks, and Pixar. There’s definitely noticeable differences between each of their styles.

I agree. They’d be stupid if they didn’t. In fact they would be stupid if they didn’t just switch over? to this style for animated films from now on.

I waited until Disney put that short up on YouTube to watch it, since I was not going to pay money to see Wreck-It Ralph in theaters. That would mean supporting CGI Disney? films.

That is amazing, this makes me appreciate? ‘Paperman’ so much more!
I actually had a idea like this a while back, and it makes me happy that something like this is actually possible.

But it’s not the future of? 2D animation, it’s the future of 3D animation.

It’s still 3D animation even if it mimics 2D, so it’s not the future of 2D animation really.. it’s just a style? of 3D animation.

That’s amazing!! I sense that this? technique will bring back 2d to the mainstream. Using cg with 2d may be the future folks.

    May 17, 2013 at 11:32 am

They should make a movie using this technique.? It’s beautiful and brings back the nostalgia of the 2d Disney films. But I think we’ll just have to wait a long until then.

I’m happy to tell you that there’s a lot of japanese studios working? with hand-drawn 2D, not just Ghibli. Sadly, most of them are kinda underground. But one thing’s for sure, traditional 2D is not dead.
