@aliphia448 the gas from the bullet has enough power to slde up the gas tube which is attached to the slide in which it pushes the slide back. That’s why airsoft guns can’t do this, there is no gas.

@corporalcharlie No. The service pistol of the Army was the 38 colt.. The 38 was having trouble stopping the crazed moro’s of the phillipines, and after the conflict the Army decided on a new service pistol of 45 caliber, but wanted an automatic pistol — that was then new.. The result was the Colt 1911. The person that approved the Colt design over the Luger was none other than Gen. John T. Thompson.. You know him better by the ‘trench broom’ he designed called the Thompson Machine Gun.
