Jesus Christ! First * #SOPA * and now * #ACTA * comes to light.
It seems Governments really don’t like freedom :’-(
ACTA has been around a while but it’s only just coming to attention. Some
countries have signed up to it already but if other countries fail to sign
then that should invalidate it.
PS. I don’t think Jesus Christ can help us ๐

After the shelving of #SOPA and #PIPA we face another threat. #ACTA
threatens our internet freedoms and privacy. While ACTA is not a big a
threat as SOPA/PIPA, it may still force censorship, loss of freedom of
speech and privacy on the internet. Help bring the next threat down, +Stop

What is ACTA?
This is probably the most important 6.5min of youtube you will see this
year.
Watch it all.
Understand that ACTA has nothing to do with anti counterfeiting and
everything to do with spying/censorship.?

If you don’t like SOPA/PIPA – Then you need to hate this too!
Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement – is just as bad, if not worse than
PIPA/SOPA could dream of being.
Maybe now you people can see, with the outcry of the SOPA/PIPA blackout,
and now ACTA – That the movie and music industries are trying to buy their
way into being able to do whatever they want to, and treating all citizens
like criminals, just because they say pirating effects them.
They offer no documentation that pirated movies/music effect them, they
just say it does and your suppose to take their word for it?

Just saw this from a friend and posting as she had it… this is PHUCKING
SCARY – imagine YOUR internet service provider scanning and examining every
email you send and receive ๐ WTF!!! Watch but hold your jaw – it will hit
the floor.
**S.O.F.A** & **Protect IP** seems to have been “decoys”. There has been a
TREATY that has been in the works with a good-few other countries & it’s
called ANTI-COUNTERFEITING TRADE AGREEMENT (ACTA). I’m literally
overwhelmed after researching it. I can’t believe the words that I just
read, it’s intense. I feel like we were just “punked” with the SOFA/Protect
IP. IF you thought those bill’s were bad–A.C.T.A. is the epitome of take
away every fucking right WE (HAD) as American’s…Not just take away my
rights, but not let anyone know about this Legislation that has been in the
works & then to find out there is NO WAY for to be stopped. WOW
ACTA is being done by “legislation laundering” on an international level.
(Which is the use of international treaties that are formulated in secrecy.
Politicians follow this approach to hide/real objective that would be
unpopular w/the public. Also use of policy laundering is to implement legal
policy which a subset of legislators desire but would normally not be able
to obtain approval through regular means.)

Good explanation of what ACTA is and does. SOPA and PIPA were put on hold
last week. Now it’s time to target ACTA (which, by the way, is currently
protected from being viewed by the public due to it being a “damage to the
national security”).?

There hasn’t been a lot in the news about the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade
Agreement lately because it seems that a lot of people still don’t know
exactly what it entails. ACTA is not only a concern for one country. Any
country that signs the treaty will fall under the scope of ACTA. This is
not just censorship, this is governments requiring internet service
providers to monitor *everything* that is sent or received from your
computer. We cannot allow laws like this to pass.
*Educate yourself, speak up, and stop internet censorship.*?

*does anybody care?* …
to be frank, i’m getting pretty worried about seeing only very few posts
expressing concern about ACTA … has all energy been spent over SOPA/PIPA?
… are the people in power really so much cleverer than us and are
sneaking this by us, without most of us even noticing and/or caring? …
when SOPA needed to be fought there was an enormous international uproar
(though the bill effected mainly the US) … the europeans decided to join
the protest anyway though, since they realised that, if SOPA gets through
in the US they’d be next … now there is a global treaty, that is far more
dangerous and concerns us all (including the US who, how surprising, is one
of the main initiators of the treaty) and i don’t see hardly any posts
responding to it … this makes me sad, because that means they’ve won …
maybe not now … maybe we’ll manage to avert this danger once again, but
the people who want to control the internet are not stupid … they too see
the decrease in protest … they now know, they can wear us down … it is
only a matter of time until they get a law, a bill or a treaty through,
because nobody’s got the energy to care anymore … i see black for our
future on the www …
don’t let that happen! … please! … act against ACTA! … if you still
haven’t heard about it (which wouldn’t surprise me at all) have a look at
this video or/and check out all the posts i wrote about it under #jgacta !
… and PLEASE share, share, share! … raise awareness! …

And it continues…. using sledgehammers vs. scalpels… this time it’s
ACTA. Worse than SOPA (it’s a treaty with 39 countries, not just the US).

GAH! Now that SOPA and PIPA have received so much negative attention, I’ve
discovered two more pieces of legislation that also threaten your rights
and privacy online: ACTA (http://youtu.be/dmQN93NqqDM), your internet
provider will monitor your activity for copyright infringement, and HR 1981
(http://goo.gl/xAU6F), uses the guise of protecting children to require
internet providers to store your internet history and private data for over
a year.?

the submissions, are preprints affected by this?

This is related to the SOPA and PIPA issue, only its bigger because it’s
international law. This explanation is really well done, and clear. This is
a creepy and worrisome idea, let alone piece of international legislation.?

I didn’t know that EU countries are proposing laws that model the U.S.’s
PIPA/SOPA.
There’s so much money put into laws to an un-open/un-free Internet. I
wonder why there’s not as much money put into laws for an open/free
Internet?
