the fact they made this movie with just paper and pencil is just amazing.
nowadays people are only interested in cheap flash animation, sad.?

This makes me cry so much and at the same time inspires me to keep drawing
and animating. It’s a shame Disney got rid of the 2D district…it made up
    so many childhoods…

This is great. I’m really disapointed that they quit 2D animation- it would
be so great to see more Disney dog movies, just for old times sake.

@evanakane the 3d was done before and the 2d animation afterwards

Probably the same reason why 2D is better than 3D, because the human
imperfections seem to be beautiful all in all, and when they try too hard
to polish and buff something, it doesn’t leave much left for the human
    imagination…

I really hope that someday, animation studios will release a rough
animation version of the movie on their dvds/blu-rays. The animation is so
much more rich without cleanup and color.

Disney needs to get back to this. I like the 3D stuff, but it will never
top their hand drawn stuff for me.

Wow, you I never realized how much work they put into it. This is why i’m
    so fastinated with handdrawn animation

@bkalesti Yes and I agree. I made that comment over three years ago, and
have since expanded my view of animation greatly. Though its true that no
    3D animation has effected me emotionally as much as Grave of the Fireflies;
Up, Wall-E, and Toy Story 3 have come decently close. Though I doubt I’ll
ever be brought to tears as much as in Grave of the Fireflies, I am hoping
that I will be by a 3D animated movie one day.

Watching this video, I feel like it’s an absolute crime that this beautiful
art form is dying. There is just something about these hand-drawn images…
the fluidity, the spontaneity, the sheer power and passion and artistry,
that has yet to be duplicated on the computer. I’m truly grateful that
Disney decided to start doing them again, but we need more!

Probably because you really feel this is man-made. The final result is
    “just magic”.
