Well GI depends on a lot of things, how? many bounces, brightness, but that isn’t all that accumulates to big render times. Pretty much everything does! so shadows, the quality of them shadows, reflections, glossyness, the size of the final output, the GI profile (low, high, etc) irridance cache, etc. Check out the next part of this tutorial it goes into some of it.

I really like the brighter cleaner look of GI, but i also find the render times to be a bit ridiculous. If you have any tips on how to emulate? the same look as GI without the crazy render times i would be very interested to hear them, even if its mostly in After Effects.
