Before the mass media, people actively engaged with culture through storytelling and expanding well-known tales. Modern fan culture connects to this historical tradition, and has become a force that challenges social norms and accepted behavior. Whether the issue is gender, sexuality, subversiveness, or even intellectual property law, fans participate in communities that allow them to think outside of what is possible in more mainstream scenarios. “Fannish” behavior has become its own grassroots way of altering our society and culture, and a means of actively experiencing one’s own culture. In a sense, fans have changed from the faceless adoring masses, to people who are proud of their identity and are stretching the boundaries of what is considered “normal”.   32. You may or may not realize this but? it is true that Fandom IS changing society as a whole. You take a series such as MLP or Transformers and that small group of fans create a whole new fanbase base upon popularity.

You got to be kidding, bronies community are a lot more homogeneous (confused rejected geeks), furries on the other hand are very diverse, I myself like female furry art but its mainly because as a man I love women, and I love art… and it extends to all women anthropomorphic representations (feminine traits). But I have to admit, there is a LOT of wicked people in furry fandom, the difference with Bronies is that there is at least a small portion of the furry fandom? whose totally respectable.
